The powerfull rock band Abaco formed in 2003. The music fits in somewhere
between alternative rock and progressive metal. Described in reviews as:
stoner grunge, math rock, riff rock, .. with references to bands like;
Tool, Led Zepp, Soundgarden, The Melvins, Kuyss, A Perfect Circle, Meshuggah.
Previous experience in other bands and a diverse musical background is
reflected in Abaco's musical style.
In April 2003 Abaco released its first 4-track demo, recorded at Frank
Reijgersberg (also Racoon, Cooper, Nuff Said). That same month Abaco had
it's debut-performance, more shows followed soon, e.g. at De Melkweg,
Amsterdam (with Chevelle) and Despotes Festival (near Nijmegen). Latest
recordings were mixed and produced by Salve.
Lords Of Metal
"Very balanced, complex and above all extremely good!"
"Het viertal doet wel degelijk aan een inventieve tak van stoner grunge
die - gedomineerd door sombere, onrustig omrollende gitaarriffs en donkergetinte
stevige-halen-vocalen - in vier nummers heerlijk zwaar op de maag valt."
"Abaco have fused elements of Tool and Messugah to come up with a very
interesting take on stoner and math-rock that is completly infectious."
